I am chair of the Information Studies department at Minneapolis Community & Technical College—the academic department of the college library. The MCTC information literacy program is one of the most developed and innovative programs in the country. I teach liberal arts classes in Information Studies that critically analyze the claims of information society advocates; the role of the mass media, the alternative press, and dissident groups and ideas in shaping American society; and the history of ideas and print culture. I also teaches classes in, and coordinates, the MCTC Library Information Technology degree program. I have a master of arts degree in library & information studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a master of arts degree in theology from the University of St. Thomas, graduate coursework in liberal studies from Hamline University, a bachelor of arts degree in history from Bethel University, and an associate of arts degree from the University of Wisconsin-Marinette County.
